Finally, with the bright summer days approaching, we enter a new beginning: the world after Corona. Back to a part of normality. Many of us have mastered the exceptional situation well, with adaptability and discipline. This also mobilized forces that we did not know in us: helpfulness, athletic agility, exciting hobbies. Is the return to normality also partly a return to the old rut?

Better not!

A job or better a work is fun, especially when we are challenged. Not under-challenged, not over-challenged. That way we get into the flow feelings. Most of us seek this inner satisfaction and satisfactory feelings of having achieved something in our working hours. In order to keep this feeling up, we must constantly learn and make progress.

And this is the key point: When the working environment and tasks at our working place challenge us, we shall move on to new tasks and will become better. This allows us to cope with unforeseen situations and we can grow. Our competences level increases, our self-confidence becomes stable, our self-efficacy feels good.

At some point, we feel that we have nothing more to learn. The work becomes routine, we are up to the task and we can complete it quickly. We look forward to the end of the day and the weekend. We are in the absolute comfort zone, but not necessarily under-challenged.

If we want to get better now, increase our learnings and seek new challenges, we need new tasks. This is field one of professional orientation: What am I good in and what could I enjoy to do.

Be honest with yourself and ask yourself this question self-critically. This should not be an invitation to change jobs in very uncertain times. Your employer certainly needs committed employees now. Some, who are willing to shoulder additional projects. So contact your supervisor tomorrow for additional tasks! You will be knocking down open doors. Topics like: Competitiveness, efficiency, internal communication, team building, external visibility, and innovation are high on the agenda. Apply for new tasks and continue to grow with them. Good luck with your Corona lock-up!
